Donating a Bike
What sort of bikes do you accept?
Even if your bike has been in the garage for a long time, you can still donate it.
We accept any bike, of any size and in any condition - as long the frame isn’t cracked, bent or extremely rusted, and the parts are in reasonable condition.
If you are ready to donate, click here and see our drop off points and donation form.
At the moment, we aren't accepting e-bikes due to the hazard and safety issues around storing and repairing used batteries. We hope this may change in the future though.
What happens after I donate a bike?
Once we’ve received your
bike, it heads to our workshop. All the bikes we receive are assessed by our brilliant team of mechanics and given a full safety inspection.
Many of our bikes are donated to families and schools that need them; part of our mission is to allow everyone the chance to own and ride a bike.
The rest head to our warehouse rather than landfill to be loved again by a new
owner.
Do you buy second hand bikes, or only accept donated ones?
Any money we make goes straight back into the charity, for this reason we are not able to offer anything in exchange for a bike donation. If you would like to know more about the charity you are supporting, please click here to find out about Brainwave Australia.
Buying a Bike
How do a I buy a bike?
There are a couple of ways to purchase a bike from our social enterprise Brainwave Bikes. The first is to simply visit us in store. We are located at Unit 6, 42-44 Garden Boulevard, Dingley Village, VIC, 3172. This is our Superstore and the place where you'll be able to browse our full range of refurbished bikes, try them out and ask lots of questions of our friendly staff. We've also got a wide range of accessories in store for sale - from spokey dokes and bike streamers, to locks, helmets and drink bottles!
The second option to purchase a bike, is through our website shop. You can shop here for a more curated range and please note that at the moment, we are unable to ship any bikes so all bikes purchased online will still require in-store collection.
We are working hard on being able to offer delivery across Melbourne, but it isn't possible for us just yet.
How do I know that a second-hand bike is safe?
Safety is our number one priority here at Brainwave Bikes. Each bicycle is individually checked and tested by a qualified mechanic before its ready for sale and placed on the shop floor, or in the online second-hand bike shop.
Can you ship my bike to me if I purchase online?
You can shop online for a refurbished bike, giving you time to browse and peruse our collection.
We are now also offering local delivery for addresses within a 25km radius of our Dingley Village Warehouse. This is offered at a flat rate of $40.
If you selected and paid for 'local delivery' during your checkout, we'll be in touch shortly to arrange delivery of your bike!
How do I know the right size of bike to purchase?
This is a great question!
There are definitely general height guidelines to follow, but as we're all built different with different length legs and torsos, they should be used as a guide only.
Children's bikes sizes are described by wheel size (which is generally described in inches) and adult bikes sizes are described by their frame size (generally in centremetres).
If you aren't able to visit us in Dingley to try a bike, then we love this guide to give a good understanding of the different bike sizes: https://www.bikeexchange.com.au/promo/frame-size-calculator
What is your return policy?
If, for whatever reason, you are unhappy with your purchase, we offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee. This enables you to swap your bicycle for another bike, either of greater value (and pay the difference) or a cheaper bicycle (and we will refund the difference).
If you have any mechanical issues with your bicycle, we offer a 3-month repair warranty. (Please
note this does not cover flat tyres or intentional damage).
If we are unable to repair your bicycle we will offer an alternative bicycle of equal value.
Do I get a discount, on purchasing a bike, if I have donated one to you?
We regularly offer discounts and promotions for donating bicycles, make sure to follow our social media pages and sign up to our newsletter to keep up to date with the latest deals.
